My Travel Adventure in Asia

Thailand
During May 2000, I took an interesting trip to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. I never knew the name of the tour company, but I do know the price was very reasonable. A friend helped me make the arrangements for this interesting adventure. First thing that made a big impression was the airline called Cathay Pacific. I still have never been on an airline so luxurious. They really went all out to serve the customer and the food was very high quality and made for a very sumptuous meal.
The flight was very long with a four hour stop over in Hong Kong. The first leg was over twenty hours long. From Hong Kong, we traveled the rest of the way to Bangkok Thailand. The dining was very exotic and the restaurants had plenty of character. I really was surprised with some of the odd fruit that was being served to us. One fruit had spines like a porcupine, but when you got to the fruit part the taste was great. Another item I remember was called Durian. It tastes very good. Something odd was that this fruit was banned from many of the hotels where I stayed.
We stayed in a hotel right on the river in Bangkok. It was a five star hotel and I remember two things about it. First, the shower stall was all glass. Second, my room was entirely paneled with Mahogany. We traveled to the city of Pataya after two days in Bangkok. We stayed in Pataya a couple of nights in a very nice hotel with a very nicely shaped pool. One of our first adventures was a night on the town seeing a show. The show consisted of several skits with what looked like beautiful girls. It actually was a show with men dressed up as showgirls. They really faked me out. Our highlight of Pataya was when we took a boat out to go Para Sailing.
We then spent the rest of the day on an island just for tourists. Swimming and some scuba diving was available. I just spent my time looking at all the vendors who were lining the shore with their goods. We went back to Bangkok to stay overnight then left by air for Singapore. We toured Singapore for two nights. We saw an excellent show that taught some of the history of Singapore. I was happy to learn that the water in Singapore was safe to drink. My hotel had a beautiful large pool that I swam in the morning before we were to leave.
We went to Malaysia quickly by bus due to the close proximity of the two countries. Malaysia has a definite Muslim flavor. They follow the Muslim form of law called Sharia. I did make one mistake, I should not have used the beautiful swimming pool in Johor Bahru. Evidently, my body absorbed some toxins and I was sick for a couple days.
Our trip ended with a flight back to Hong Kong. This is a very big metropolis like New York City. They took us on a very interesting tour showing us the flavor of the island. I was very happy with this trip and especially Cathay Pacific. I would fly them again if I decide to make another trip to Asia in the future with of course Overseas Adventure Travel.

Give me a mahogany room, Hound Cat, and I will be much more relaxed than I currently am. :)
What a marvelous itinerary! If the price was reasonable, all the better. I'm sorry you forgot the name of the tour company!
I can relate to the part about getting sick via a swimming pool. It's true, people think eating exotic foods will do it, but the innocent swimming pool is the more likely source of contamination. Rated this one up.
"Another item I remember was called Duran. The locals called it "Stinky Fruit" for an obvious reason." - Oh,it's durian, many Asians like me love it :D
